The Fan Module is only activates when engine reaches high temperatures (typically between 200 & 215 degrees Fahrenheit). The fan will normally run during a lengthy drive, also it may continue running after the engine has been shut off. In the most vehicles, the module will also switch the fan on, when the air conditioning is activated, in order to provide additional air flow & accelerated cooling.
An engine Cooling Fan Module (CFM) is always custom designed for a specific vehicle platform. The Gate and RiYong brands from Johnson Electric are the CFM leaders in Europe/Americas and China respectively. The engine cooling technology from Johnson Electric addresses all passenger car segments including luxury, mid-size, compact, P.S.M.P-compact, mini and electric vehicles.
The custom engineering capability of Johnson Electric covers electronically commutated (EC) motors and multiple DC motor technologies, with speed regulation by PWM electronic modules or relay boxes. Air flow management is accomplished by custom fan and shroud designs with single or dual fan configurations. The entire CFM design is packaged to minimize weight, space and noise NVH. The latest EC (brushless) motor CFM platforms improve fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions by advanced engine temperature management.
Cooling Fan Modules are custom engineered in collaboration with OEM engineering and manufactured in proximity to vehicle assembly plants. The Cooling Fan Modules listed below are a few examples of designs used in various vehicle categories. The pdf product information provides performance details of these modules.
